26 THE COASTAL BEND MAGAZINE • Fall 2018 TheCoastalBend.com Coastal Bend Snow! Over the past 15 years, the Coastal Bend has experienced more snowfall than during the prior century. Last year on Dec. 8 over one inch fell officially in Corpus Christi, although as much as three inches fell on the city’s far south side, Flour Bluff and on the islands. The biggest South Texas snow event was also the most magical, when flur- ries began to fall shortly after sunset on Christmas Eve 2004. By Christmas morning, over four inches had fallen, and the storm that brought it had cleared the area, leaving behind a White Christmas soaked in warm sun- shine. It was the first and only White Christmas in Coastal Bend history, and ironically, one of the few Christmas 2004 snowfalls anywhere in the U.S. The“Snow”book is still on Amazon. Christmas at the Texas State Aquarium SCUBA Santa will again make his much anticipated appearance at the Texas State Aquarium this holiday season. Watch him feed the sharks, entertain the crowd, and SCUBA elves and reindeer are know to show up as well! The Polar Express 4-D Experience will play in the Aquarium’s 100-seat theater this season. 4-D incor- porates elements like snow, scents and wind into the 3-D film experience.
