In 2013 the Newport Dunes Golf Club and adjacent property was purchased by San Antonio-based KoontzMcCombs Development who has held land on the gulf side of Highway 361 and next to Island Moorings Marina and for several years where a condominium project has been on hold since 2009. With the purchase and rebranding of the Newport property to Palmilla Beach Resort Golf Club plus tangible improvements now in place including a new club house restaurant dubbed Black Marlin Bar Grill and golf pro shop the company has taken the first big steps in developing one of the premium waterfront com- munities on the Texas Coast. The City of Port Aransas takes the quality of their beaches seriously so just about every morn- ing you can see workers manicuring the beach with heavy equipment so guests have easy access by car truck golf cart or on their own two feet. Port As gulf beach stretches over 10 miles south to the Mustang Island State Park and are all acces- sible by vehicle. The town north of Avenue G is a true oceanfront village bustling with laughter and fun activities from great dining to shopping an art center and galleries and even hands-on experi- ences like pottery or model making and paint- ing. Alister St. and you can get a close look at the world of ocean research at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute visitor center. With all to do in this island paradise one week two weeks or more may just not be long enough this year The Art Center of Port Aransas was officially formed in 1996 by a group of enthusiasts and artists who recognized that Mustang Is- land offers endless artistic inspiration and that hundreds of very talented folks find themselves so-inspired. This years dinner kicks off a weekend of Art Center events. 10th Annual Port Aransas ArtFest Sat-Sun May 16-17 at Roberts Point Park on the ship channel the ArtFest will feature dozens of local artists and artisans and their work ready and available for sale to the public. 32st Annual Songwriters Showcase Sunday May 17th 700 p.m. at Roberts Point Park one of the most beautiful and relaxing settings on the Texas Coast and the perfect spot for an evening music festival that brings together local artists residents and visitors.
