64 Texas Coastal Bend Late Spring 2015 Texas Mesquite BBQ Grill Padre Islands single barbecue joint recently came under the new ownership of two veterans of Corpus Christis restaurant industry manager Debra Foster and chef and pit master Orlando Quintanilla. By the sum- mer island visitors and residents were enjoying a new menu that not only took the quality of the restaurants Texas barbecue to new heights but also introduced a new layer of gourmet cuisine to the island. Quintanilla learned to appreciate real South Texas cooking grow- ing up on the King Ranch and after years in the oil industry worked for free under several of the Coastal Bends most respected restaurateurs in what became a hands-on culinary education. His skill translates into the delicious tender and perfectly prepared brisket ribs sausage chicken turkey and pulled pork that your find at Texas Mesquite. Everything here is homemade including rubs and sauces that contain the most taste- ful and natural ingredients like hand-selected peppers and spices. The gourmet burgers are fantastic and this is one of the few eateries where you find exotic meats like elk bison goat and even kangaroo 14457 S. High octane creativity shows through at Black Sheep Bistro with its grilled mahi mahi paired with a blood-orange bur blanc sauce Jamaican style jerk shrimp plus a vari- ety of unique pasta selections. We recommend adding sauted lump crab demi glace mushroom sauce or one of a variety of side items to your entree. 15201 S. Padre Island Dr. 361 949-4819 blacksheepbistro.com Padre Island
