46 Texas Coastal Bend tour guide Early Spring 2016 While Port A is known across the country for its bounti- ful offshore game fishing onshore fishing is among the best on the Texas coast as well. Surf fishing is of course accessible from almost anywhere on the beach but is more practical in the early mornings before the beach crowds arrive during a busy period like Spring Break. Horace Caldwell Pier is located on the Port Aransas beach at the I.B. Magee Nueces County Park and extends 1200 feet into gulf waters. The pier facility includes a cafe and bait shop and is as popular with surfers as it is with fishermen who pull in redfish drum shark and a variety of other native species. The Port Aransas Jetties form the underwater structure that creates the ship channel which runs between them. The south jetty is located in Port A at the north end of the beach. The north jetty is located on St. Joseph Island St. Jos which is accessible via the privately-run Jetty Boat operating from Fishermans Wharf. Both jetties offer free access to the unique rocky underwater habitat that is home to a unique variety of fish. Terrific Port A Shore Fishing Golf carts the big thing in Port A Golf Carts may be driven on the beach and on city streets with speed limits under 35 mph which pretty much covers the entire town. Carts may not be driven on South Alister TX-361 south of Avenue G and drivers must pull to the side when safe to allow faster vehicles to pass. Always operate with great care
